October is National Black Cat Awareness Month, and here at Catnip Queen, we’re celebrating the beautiful black cats who deserve just as much love, attention and opportunity as every other feline friend.
Alongside our wonderful charity partner, Feline Care, we’re proud to help raise awareness of the thousands of black cats across the UK who are waiting for their forever homes. Because every cat deserves a loving family, a safe place to sleep and a human who adores them — regardless of the colour of their coat.
Why Do Black Cats Need Our Support?
Black cats are some of the most striking and beautiful cats around, with their glossy coats, bright eyes and wonderfully individual personalities. Yet, sadly, they can still be overlooked by people looking to adopt.
Outdated superstitions, misconceptions about their personalities and even the belief that they don't photograph as well as other cats can all play a part in making it harder for some black cats to find their forever homes.
The statistics are a reminder of why raising awareness matters. According to the RSPCA, black and black-and-white cats accounted for 47% of the cats in its care in the year reported in 2025. Its figures also showed that black cats spent an average of 71 days in care before finding a home, compared with 64 days for tabby cats.

At Catnip Queen, we think black cats are absolutely magical — and not just because October is the perfect time of year to celebrate them!
